The Heart of Athletes in Action

Athletes in Action was founded in 1966 by David Hannah, who desired to build on society's great
love of sports and utilize the platform given to the athletes to reach the world for Jesus Christ. Since then Athletes in Action has sought to be a global pioneer, innovator, and servant leader in sport ministry. As a branch of Campus Crusade for Christ, AIA exists to bring Jesus Christ and His message of victory into the hearts, homes, and communities of millions around the world.

AIA has a ministry presence in over 85 countries, on nearly 100 U.S. college campuses, and on 35 U.S. professional sports teams. Every summer AIA sends teams of college athletes in multiple sports to compete overseas, grow their individual faith, and spread the message of Jesus Christ. AIA's media tools and materials expose millions of sports fans to the good news each year. Countless volunteers, thousands of athletes, and more than 500 staff members stand together to share one message: Life's greatest victory is found in a relationship with Jesus Christ. We are so excited to be apart of what God is doing through AIA at UNC and Duke.

Verse Of The Day

New Name - Cru
Last week, Athletes in Action's parent organization, Campus Crusade for Christ, announced that we will be changing to the new name of "Cru".
Words may take on new meanings over time, but our calling never changes.  We are committed to give every person around the world an opportunity to hear the Gospel and a chance to say Yes to Jesus.  That is what makes a name change necessary.

You can be sure that our calling and mission for Athletes in Action and for Cru have not changed.  Our heart remains the same: using the platform of sports to help fulfill the Great Commission by winning people to Christ, building them in thier faith to see their lives transformed, and sending them out to reach others.

If you have any further questions about this, please contact us on our emails and we would love to talk to you more about it!

What are the AIA Principles?
Many of you may recall us sharing about the Ultimate Training Camps we have served at in Colorado during the summers. In Australia, the AIA staff have  discovered these are a very culturally relevant platform for sharing Christ and equipping His followers to integrate faith and sport. So much so that we will be hosting them at 5 locations in the year ahead (Perth, Brisbane, New Castle, Sydney & also one in New Zealand).  Because of having been at the AIA Training Center and some of our past experience with the Camps, we will have the opportunity to help teach “The Principles”.
If you are (or know) an athlete or coach this is for you!
It will change your life!

The purpose of the Ultimate Training Camp is to create an environment in which God would change lives by introducing men and women athletes to competition and growth from a Biblical perspective.
The primary vehicle used in teaching from a Biblical perspective at the Ultimate Training Camp are the AIA Principles. These five Biblical principles are meant to transform sport as an opportunity to worship God so that we can participate in sport in a way that honors Him.

We moved to the Land Down Under!

As we shared with you back in March, the Lord has been preparing us for a new chapter of our faith adventure. God has laid it on our hearts to continue serving with Campus Crusade for Christ / Athletes in Action, but has been directing our steps to a season of ministering internationally. As we’ve prayed over this, He has been opening doors and showing us the need for laborers in Sydney, Australia. Our response is: "Here I am. Send me." - Isaiah 6:8

We'll look forward to keeping you up to date on how our transition to life and ministry in Australia goes!  Thanks so much for all of your support and encouragement!

Prayer Requests as we continue life and ministry in Australia:
- meetings about potential chaplaincy opportunities with a couple of key teams in/around Sydney
- part 2 of an upcoming conference that we will both be attending for training and equipping through Sports Chaplaincy Australia
- for the provision of a car

- for our hearts and minds during this upcoming season as we expereience the Holidays in a different way

The current time in Sydney is...

Below: While a goalie on the UNC Field Hockey team, Jayne had the opportunity to disciple Bri for two years.
Hoping to find her worth in being the best in the nation, Bri talks about her successful year being a National Champion in Field Hockey and how it wasn't enough to fulfill her even though it was her ultimate goal. Jesus showed her that her worth isn't determined by her success and failure but by what he said is true about her.  Watch the clip below to hear more of Bri's story...
