Jayne's Story

 Growing Up:
Growing up I was blessed with a close knit and loving family in Lancaster, PA. From a young age I was enthusiastic about several things: My family, sports & God. (Throughout High School I would have ranked them in that priority order.) I wanted to love my family and be closely connected to them, play basketball, and be a person who pleased God.

Turning Point:
When I achieved my goal of earning a basketball scholarship to University of Delaware, I had NO idea all that God had in store for me next. I was oblivious to how He would radically transform my life over the next four years. Without knowing it, I had been living my life in black & white…He was about to turn it to High Definition Color.
Throughout my 4 years at UD, my identity was changed from Jayne Boyer: daughter, sister, solid student, good basketball player, and nice person; to Jayne: Christ follower & daughter of the King.
I was on a faith journey and the adventure involved MUCH adversity and challenge, especially in the areas of basketball, self image & relationships. God was clearly at work though. I began attending an Athlete Bible Study and was surrounded by young men and women who possessed something special…I just couldn’t put my finger on what it was.
Over time I began to grasp what I had been missing out on…how personal and close God is and what it is like to experience His love, forgiveness and grace. For years I had been trying to perform and earn His approval (and been frustrated because I never felt like I did it well enough). I was looking at God as if He were far away and distant. I began to understand and experience the TRUTH: When you allow Christ to be your Savior and Lord, He draws near to you in a personal way. He saved me from the punishment I deserved for my sins and I wanted to fall in love with Him and be changed by His love.

Blessings along the way:Jayne being baptized by Corinne Rollins
It was Spring of my Jr. Year at Delaware when God blessed me with one of the greatest gifts ever! He intersected my life with Corinne Rollins and her family ( Athletes in Action Staff in the Mid Atlantic Region). He gave me the opportunity to have a personal tour guide who taught me about His powerful Word (the Bible) and by her example showed me how to love God with my whole life & journey with Him daily. As my understanding of who God is grew, so did the depth of my love and my desire for others to experience Him like this.
As my college chapter of life was closing, I started looking ahead to what would come next and asked God what His plan was for my life. This was something new for me since often I just told Him MY plans and asked Him to bless those. I felt Him leading me to join Athletes in Action staff. This was an opportunity for me to blend my passion for pursuing Him, loving and serving others AND sports. WHAT COULD BE BETTER!?! (As you can see my priorities had shifted since high school.)

ATHLETES IN ACTION MINISTRY:
After graduating from University of Delaware in 2004, I joined full time staff with AIA. My prayer was that I would grow in my faith and understanding of God’s Jayne with her Carolina Tarheel girlsWord, and also help others as Corinne had blessed me!
I spent 2 ½ years at AIA’s World Training and Resource Center, being poured into and trained in ministry development. While there I was able to invest in the lives of women athletes at Wright State University. After completing my initial training I was placed at University of North Carolina to serve along side Mike & Kim Echstenkamper.
Another blessing that came from my time in Ohio, besides the incredible places God took me in my trust of Him, was that He brought the man of my dreams into my life. What began as a friendship and teammate situation with Kyle Wenig, had blossomed into a dating relationship and now lifelong union, as I get to be his Bride. I am overwhelmed by God’s lovingkindness in how He has shaped and refined us independently, and am excited for the ways He will use us TOGETHER, for His glory!
